Iceland and East Greenland
Winter 2008 |

|
7 (or 6) days
Only in Greenland is the dogsledge still an integral part of everyday life during winter and spring. The apparently simple wooden sledge and a team of husky dogs is in fact a living expression of man's adaptation to his environment, the way that Greenlanders have always traveled. East Greenland is only a two hour flight from Reykjavik and has a milder climate than the other dogsledging regions in Greenland - it has a richer snowcover on its magnificent landscape. There is no better way to experience this than in the company of the friendly and helpful local hunters on their sledges. The ancient dogsledge routes allow you to travel in a manner that’s uniquely traditional.Dogsledging Day tours in Iceland 3 Nights in Greenland February and March 2008 Kulusuk, Greenland and Reykjavik, Iceland are on nearly the same latitude, which means almost the same amount of daylight. By February it’s light from about 10 AM to 5PM and by the end of March daylight is from 7AM to 8PM - perfect conditions for Northern lights as well as daily activities. Here's an outline of the itinerary. We'll send you a detailed itinerary before you go. Monday: Overnight flight to Iceland Travelers from North America leave for Iceland on an overnight flight with an early morning arrival at Keflavik Airport in Iceland. Tuesday: Welcome to Iceland! You’ll have a ticket for the Flybus shuttle which will deliver you to your hotel in Reykjavik. The day will be yours to enjoy Iceland’s capital. We’ll provide lots of info on how to enjoy Reykjavik and give you some ideas on restaurants, as lunch and dinner are on your own. Wednesday: Off to Greenland After breakfast you’ll be taken to the Reykjavik Domestic airport for your Air Iceland flight to Kulusuk, with lunch during the two hour flight. Upon landing you’ll be met by your guides, who take you to the nearby Hotel Kulusuk where you can check in and get details about your time there. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included while in Greenland. In the afternoon guided sightseeing in the village of Kap Dan. The next 3 night’s accommodations at Hotel Kulusuk. Thursday: Dogsledge Full day tour by dogsledge. Box lunch & warm drink is included during the excursion. Breakfast and dinner at hotel. Friday: Day of leisure in Kulusuk Your day in Kulusuk will have optional excursions available, which can be booked and paid for locally. You can also do some exploring on your own. Sunday: Explore Iceland Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before a combined city sightseeing tour of Reykjavik and Golden Circle excursion. Today you’ll take in the “must see” sights of iceland on the Golden Circle Tour - Geysir, Gullfoss, and the national park at Thingvellir, home of Europe’s first parliment in the ninth century. There will be a stop for lunch, then back to your hotel for a last night’s stay. This might be a good night to sample some of Iceland’s more upscale restaurants, and, if you’re hardy, some of its famous night life. Monday: Home Depending on your return flight you may have some time for more of Reykjavik - we include a Flybus voucher to get you to Keflavik in plenty of time for your homeward flight. All bookings in Greenland are subject to Special Conditions, to which you must agree when booking! Special Conditions! Arctic weather and limited capacity in Greenland may cause traffic delays resulting in interruptions, limitations or changes in the itinerary. This may result in extra expenses to cover meals, hotel accommodation and/or transportation not foreseen in the program. Such expenses have to be paid directly by travelers themselves. The tour operator cannot accept any responsibility, economic or otherwise for such changes.Flying is the only way to travel between communities in most of Greenland. The aircraft that serve Greenland fly from one remote area to another and any delays at one airport is telegraphed through the system. Because of this, we build some flexibility into any Greenland program.. Travel between Iceland and Greenland can be uncertain as well, so we never schedule a flight back to the US from Iceland on the same day as you return from Greenland. Dates & Prices*: *Not included in the price are US departure taxes, (which were about $92 in November 2007), meals other than breakfast in Iceland, day tours not specifically included in Greenland or Iceland.Currency in Greenland is the Danish Kronur, which (DKK) which is quite readily available in Iceland. While credit cards are also widely accepted in Greenland, you should make a point to get some DKK before leaving Iceland. See www.xe.com |
